Samuil Furer

October 16, 2006 at 01:42 AM · A friend of mine trade me a CD copy of an old vinyl

recital by the russian violinist Samuil Furer. A

very pleasent find; big sound, good technique, perfect intonation, fast tempos and a

continuous legato, singing all the time. Do you have some information about him?

Samuil Furer was a pupil of Petr Stoliarskij's, the greatest pedagogue active in Russia at the beginning of the century together with Auer (Auer was in St. Petersburg while Stoliarskij was in Odessa). His most famous pupils were D. Oistrakh and N. Mistein, together with E. Gilels, B. Golstein, M. Goldstein, I. Oistrakh. You are lucky to have a CD by him. May I ask what is on the CD?

Well, I've  2 CDs. One of them with 18 short pieces, some very well knew, but some rarities like a Krakowiak by Statkovsky (?), a Waltz by Vecsey, Var.and romance by Vieuxtemps, an Allegro by Fiocco, Sierra Morena by Monasterio and a Serenade du Tzigane by Valdez (?).. The other one have some biger works: 4 romantic pieces by Dvorak, the Bach's chaconne, LvB son.opl2 No.2 and a Haydn sonata.and some short pieces. The sound is from bad to mediocre, but beggars can't by pushers, isn't it?
