Looking for a teacher in Melbourne, Australia

February 14, 2006 at 12:04 AM · I'm looking for a violin teacher in Melbourne (Australia) that sort of specialises in teaching Bach's Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin plus AMEB examination. Anyone know any teachers around here?

I am from Melbourne too. Just thought I might say hi. You might want to try a teacher from the MSO? I'm not sure of any teachers that specialize in the Bach solo works though. I studied with Julian Quirit who was very good for any work.

I'm in Adelaide but seriously best thing to do is to call the Con over there (you have Aus Academy of Music over there too)- get the names and numbers of the people in their string faculty, Then Ring them up and see if they teach privately. Best way to do it. You get a good teacher this way that will def be teaching Bach and AMEB.

February 14, 2006 at 11:19 PM · Yes, Alice Waten is a very good teacher. She taught Richard Tognetti of the ACO and I have worked with many of her students, particularly those at ANAM (Brahms's double in 2004, Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante 2005, and in a few months Beethoven's Triple concerto). She would be quite busy at ANAM so it may be hard to get lessons.

By the way, ANAM give a lot of very good free concerts, worth going...
