Gregory Singer Violins are the best and most reputable dealers. They also have many wonderful violins in the collection. I highly recommend them.

September 25, 2005 at 01:39 AM · I would reccomend Dove Buck at 250 W54th. Very meticulous about what he does, and a very nice and honest man too. He will tell you straight up what he thinks, even if it is bad for him. He is a dealer as well, and has a very nice selection of instruments. All the work on my violin has been done by him, and I am immesely satisfied with the quality. Only drawback - can be a little slow due to his drive for absolute perfection. But when you do get your violin back, it plays like a dream.

April 23, 2008 at 09:39 PM · Hi everyone! I am back in NYC again until this Sunday, the 27th. Yesterday, I had to go over to 250 W 54th St. My violin pegs were beginning to stick, especially the one for the A string, and I needed everything fixed because I was going over to Nino's on W 58th St to do some playing with the legendary pianist Irving Fields. I had intended to see Dove Buck, but I was told he is no longer there. So I took the elevator upstairs and went to Salchow. Well, Salchow only deals with bows, so he told me to walk down the hall to Carlos Arcieri. They were very nice at Arcieri's. I am guessing, but I think it may be a family run business. After a very short wait, they fixed my pegs. And they did a beautiful job. I will definitely go back there again without hesitation, and I highly recommend Archieri's to anyone who is in NYC and needs repair work on their violin.

April 26, 2008 at 02:14 AM · Phillip Perret is excellent. He's in Katonah right near Martha Stewart's estate (which I always drive past going there). Lots of the NY Philharmonic goes to him.

I tried several of the better-known shops in NY before going there on the recommendation of my teacher and her daughter, a well-known soloist. I was never disappointed. I had my violin revamped there several times, as well as appraised. Nice people, honest, and rates appropriate (no price gouging).
