Hi, I just found out today that the All State piece for this year is the Viotti Concerto 23. Can anybody suggest an edition?
My suggestion would be the cheapest you can find...the piece is rather dreadful and am not suprised it's being used to audition for a youth orchestra! Or you can find someone with a public domain edition (pre 1921) and ask nicely for a copy of the violin part.
I really like the edition in the Solos for Young Violinist (?) Volume 5. It actually has a cadenza to work with.. unlike Schrimer and International.
There used to be a Viennese UNIVERSAL-EDITION as well with cadenzas by Ludwig Wittels. But it still remains the, rather boring, Viotti concerto # 23. Ever considered the Kreutzer concerto # 19?
Thanks everyone, I'll do some research and what I can come up with.
Ronald, unfortunately we have to do the Viotti 23. :(
if u want a good quality edition, just go with the international music company
My son's teacher told us to get a Galamian edition. I have no idea which one is better, but we are going with what she suggested.
Julia,
Viotti 23 is not that boring :-) Just the bowing in the last movement is a bit awkward :-)

August 28, 2005 at 02:37 AM · I haven't played Viotti before, I really want to play Concerto 22 in a minor though I haven't heard G major yet, but, Schirmer and International always have very good sheet music, so I would suggest asking your teacher or buying one of those editions (or maybe your teacher will like those editions).
