Is there any software that can transcribe (e.g., translate into a score) music from a CD? I have some (recorded) old tunes for violin/fiddle for which no sheet music exists and need to have this music written out.
The answer is an unequivocal no. More or less.
Well.... I am only human, but I have been transcribing all sorts of tunes off CDs and turning them into scores and parts, for several years now. I've done fiddle tunes and other styles (for myself, friends, and students), and I've done several various styles of pieces for my college MIDI Band (everything from New Age and Jazz to Rock).
I might be willing to do this for you, if the details work out between us. If you think you might be interested, let's email... :)
If a there is any software that can play a line of music from notation, one would think that somewhere there is a way to reverse the process. I am not talking about complex pieces; a single melody on a violin...
There is software that will take melodic dictation; however, I don't know of any polyphonic ones. If it's a single melody line, one instrument, it *might* work; I've played with it and it's a bit iffy. Finale (notation program) now includes it; I've forgotten what it was before that.
Of course, it'd be great for your musical education to transcribe them yourself... ;)
DIY. It's really fun.
If the music in a MIDI format, I think Noteworthy Composer can transcribe it.
