Hey, a friend and i are looking for appropriate pieces scored for violin/viola (violin/violin or viola/viola are ok too) that we can use for restaurant/wedding gigs. We are not looking for anything musically profound, just something light and not overly complex to the ear.
There is (or was) a two-volume set of Violin / Viola duets published by Rubank, Inc. and compiled / edited by Whistler and Hummel, named "String Companions -- Duet Collection". It includes a number of fairly easy pieces, including Pleyel, Wohlfahrt, de Beriot, Campagnoli, Mazas, Dancla... First volume has violin in 1st position, second volume in upper positions, viola in first position throughout. Generally nice pieces.
The two volumes are listed in the Shar Music catalogue. They are in "score" format, so you'll need to read off the same book or have two copies...

June 14, 2005 at 04:05 AM · There is a great set of duets written by Mozart (Zwolff duets??) or something like that. They are not very hard and have the perfect sound for prewedding music or reception music. Also, they are sighreadable because (I wish I could find the music, but I must have filed it wrong or thrown it away AHHH) the parts are the same. You can follow each other's line.
Hope this helps!
