My teacher has suggested that I check out the Mazas etudes. I'm finding two different titles, both identified as Op. 36 - "Etudes Speciales" and "75 Progressive and Melodious Studies." Does anyone know if these include the same exercises? And is any particular edition/editor preferable? Many thanks!
Mazas 75 Melodius and Progressive studies come in the books, well i'm sure you can just get the one whole.
The first is thirty special studies, the second 27 special studies and the third is 18 Artists studies. I can imagine that the artists studies would be more like pieces in themselves
Thanks, Luke! That's just what I needed to know.

May 17, 2005 at 11:25 PM · i haven't run across these before, but if they're both Op. 36, then I'd suggest that they're the same. Op. refers to a publication, eg Haydn's Op. 33 had 6 quartets in it, published in one volume.
Someone might want to confirm this though, but I'd say they're the same. If you can look through them, do so and you should see that they'd be the same.
