April 24, 2005 at 09:04 PM · I'll be going this summer. I'm pretty excited about it too.

April 24, 2005 at 10:05 PM · cool! have you gone before? I've read their website and have some idea of what to expect.. and a few people from my university have gone, but no violinists.

April 24, 2005 at 10:12 PM · Is he related to Jascha Heifetz?

April 25, 2005 at 12:33 AM · No, I haven't been before. But a friend of mine, who is coming again this year, has been there. She loved it. And yes, Daniel Heifetz is a distant cousin to Jascha Heifetz.

April 25, 2005 at 04:25 AM · Emil, care to enlighten us? :)

April 25, 2005 at 06:45 AM · No, Andrew, it's not worth it. They're already registered and probably couldn't get their money refunded. Besides, for all I know, they won't be subjected to studying with DH, if they're lucky. I understand Victor Danchenko teaches at the Institute and he is, without question, a tremendous teacher. If they're fortunate enough to study with Danchenko, it would more than offset the taint on music that DH represents.

April 25, 2005 at 12:11 PM · What "taint on music" do you feel Heifetz represents?

I'll be studying with the same teacher I study with during the school year.

April 25, 2005 at 04:03 PM · hmmm... well, I'm not studying with DH, so I think I'll just go with an open mind.

April 25, 2005 at 04:58 PM · I'm a little short on time this afternoon so I don't have the time to go into this in detail. However, for a detailed explanation of why I find DH to be worthy of the musical equivalent of a malpractice suit defendant, look in the archives of v.com. Or email Laurie for a link to that now very antique thread.

I wish you all the best at the camp, and sincerely hope that your teacher can give you all the guidance and help you might need. But I stand by all I've said about DH in the past. And, if the thread can't be easily found, I'll be glad to post in detail when I've got the time later this week. Sorry not to be able to be more helpful at the moment, though.

June 10, 2005 at 01:32 AM · Wow, sorry I didn't see this thread before. I'm a 16 year old violinist and I'm going too this summer! I'm suprised a bit suprised that I've only heard negative feedback about daniel heifetz, but I'm not studying with him anyways. I'm excited to meet you guys in two weeks :)
