Scent of a Woman, Tango (Por Una Cabeza by Gardel)
Can someone help me find the sheet music arrangement (John Williams arr.) of the above song as played by Perlman or Vadim Repin.
Can't find it anywhere!!

I have the music for an arrangement by Andrew Thompson. I've only got the violin part (originally violin and piano) and I'm not entirely sure where I picked it up, but that might help.
Good luck with this one. I recall my high school orchestra wanted to play this piece in a competition years ago, but the publisher would not give us permission to perform the piece (some kind of odd copyright law.) I am not sure who the publisher was, but it was a handwritten edition.
I have actually arranged a version of this for string quartet if you are interested (i'm not saying it's much good - but we use it for weddings etc and it seems to go down quite well!).
Thank you for your help.
I'm trying to find the J.W. edition for solo with orchestra or piano. I have the original by Gardel.
Still looking...

I sent Peter the contact information for this work.
As Erika posted, for much music from films there is only one set of orchestra parts often in manuscript only.
The solo part is only available with the orchestration when an orchestra signs a contract to rent the score and parts for a performance.
The copyright holder will then forward the violin solo part. There is no piano reduction available.

Thank You Clint.

I found it written for violin and piano here: http://www.todotango.com/english/biblioteca/partituras/partitura_print.asp?id=224
We(the Spokane Symphony) just performed this about a month ago. The parts were printed, not handwritten, and I wasn't aware of any complications as far as getting the music or getting permission to perform it. So it's out there - I don't know how much it costs though.
Mister,
According to Jamie Richardson
(The Gorfaine/Schwartz Agency Inc.) this is what he told me:
"It would not be possible for us to make a general policy of loaning this music out since John is not the publisher of "Por Una Cabeza" and the general distribution of this music would need to be authorized by them. We hope an agreement to include this arrangement is John's Hal Leonard Signature Series may be reached soon and at that point the arrangement will be available for anyone to perform. "
Regards,
Peter
I posted this earlier but don't know if many people saw it:
Yes friends it is finally here... the music we have all be waiting for....The tango from "Scent of A Woman", Por Una Cabeza!!! The title is "Tango (Por Una Cabeza)." It is for solo violin and piano.
Lyrics by Alfredo Le Pera
Music by Carlos Gardel
Arranged for Itzhak Perlman by John Williams
It is published by Hal Leonard and the sku is HL00842193. For those of you ALSO looking for the tango from Addams Family Values, it is currently out of print (but you might be able to find it on ebay or something like I did).
The title is "Tango from Addam's Family Values" for Solo Violin and Piano
By Vic Mizzy and Marc Shaiman
Arranged by Marc Shaiman
Adapted for violin and piano by Patrick Russ
It was written for Gil Shaham and Jonathan Feldman and the sku is HL00841524. To my knowledge there isn't a recording anywhere but hopefully someone will eventually do it.
Enjoy you guys!!
I just did a violin/viola duet for this piece in Sibelius. Happy to share it but I don't know how to post it.
We sell the Williams/Perlman arrangement at Southwest Strings. They are flying out the door, but we get shipments in every two weeks or so.
Martin, one way for Sibelius useres to share arrangements is to sign up to SibeliusMusic, then just put a link to it there.
wooow thank you ;)

April 12, 2005 at 03:17 PM · It's not published -- or at least it wasn't as of last year. My husband performed this for a pops concert, and the conductor had to contact John Williams directly to arrange for a loan of the music. The parts were entirely handwritten when they arrived.
