Does anyone know where I can get the solo violin parts to those awesome Riverdance numbers?
I heard there were death threats made against Michael Flatley recently.
Personally, I'd suspect the guy living in the apartment directly below his.
First off I'm assuming that the riverdance stuff is a variation of fiddling. To this I would reply that Fiddling is a completely different method of playing the violin. I've done a tiny bit of fiddling, and it's very different than what the rest of the classical violinists are used to (i.e, sheet music) and I've heard quite a bunch of stories. But essentially, there are large sessions where fiddlers will gather around, and one person will start off a tune, and the others will try and pick it up. That's how tunes are passed along, just by tradition I suppose you could say. And I'm assuming that's the way riverdance is passed as well. So, in conclusion, there probably isn't any riverdance sheet music out there for you to purchase and read, but perhaps you could attend a couple sessions and try and figure it out for yourself :-P. Enjoy!

February 24, 2005 at 02:40 PM · I was just listening to something of theirs I think, called "Medley, Fiddle Jigs." I just now went to their website. I'm trying to figure out what they are. It looks like some kind of unique brilliant concept.
The stuff I'm listening to, I could easily transcribe. I was thinking of doing it actually, at least the first part. I wish I knew who was playing. It sounds like a cigar box yet there's a very deep charm. In addition to that double-tracked fiddle, I hear a hammered dulcimer, a very stylized warm guitar, and that Irish drum thing. It's utterly masterful.
