Black Gospel or Praise music on violin

October 18, 2004 at 12:23 AM · I appreciate all of the wonderful comments on the board about me as a black female thinking I was being discriminated against. Things are going wonderful; I have a great teacher and I am learning a lot. I want to ask one question. I like to play Black Gospel on the violin. Is it possible? Have you heard of anyone who plays that type of music on the violin? I have on some praise strings albums- but they sounds sort of cheesy?

Its just her and a piano player named Geri Allen, and its really pretty. YOu can also try listening to a blues fiddler named Claude "fiddler" williams, who sometimes dabbles into a gospel sound, he even has a song titled "preacher".

Charlie Daniels has a 2-disc gospel album called "How Sweet The Sound". I haven't personally listened to it, but the cover photo has him holding his fiddle which suggests that he plays it in one or more songs.
