The New Milstein DVD

March 27, 2004 at 12:40 AM · The new release of a DVD with Nathan Milstein on March the 30th has earlier been mentioned here on the Discussion Board. Amazon.com has now some more information. Milstein is playing a concerto together with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. This makes it likely it must be the Mendelssohn concerto. The cost for this VAI DVD is $ 29.71 on Amazon.com. You can get the same thing for the cost of $ 25.00 on an other DVD from an other company. Look at the site http://www.classicalvideorarities.com/

This DVD is region free which is very interesting for us outside the U.S.and Canada.

I guess the DVD:s are just the same. Extra material could of course give more interest to the VAI DVD. Same quality?

The same same company which is advertising on Violinist.com here to the right has a lot of Oistrakh on DVD too, some earlier unreleased an some published on VHS from EMI.

March 27, 2004 at 03:10 AM · I happen to have the DVD from classicalwhatever.com and I have to say, I would have rather paid $30 for a DVD from VAI. I'm pretty sure the image quality is pretty much the same. The one from classicalwhatever.com contains only the Mendelssohn concerto and I have to assume that the one from VAI contains a little more, but if not I would still rather buy from VAI. The reason is simply, classicalwhatever.com sends you a burned DVD rather than a pressed DVD. That almost gurantees that a VAI DVD is better quality and has a greater durability.
