Who Wrote the Carmen Fantasie?

February 5, 2004 at 06:31 PM · Was it Franz Waxman or Pablo de Sarasate? Or did they both write different versions?

February 5, 2004 at 06:50 PM · They did indeed both write a Carmen fantasy, and I believe there are others as well (Horowitz did one for the piano).

February 5, 2004 at 07:51 PM · There is also one by Hubay for violin, one by Borne for flute, Busoni for piano, and other less known...

February 5, 2004 at 09:26 PM · The Horowitz one for piano is really amazing if anyone ever gets the chance to see it done live!

February 6, 2004 at 01:25 PM · Franz DRLA wrote a Carmen fantaisy easier too play than the Sarasate 's

February 6, 2004 at 04:09 PM · Then there's the Marcus Barcham-Stevens Carmen Fantasy for Three Violins which he wrote for Andrew, Florin and myself.

February 6, 2004 at 06:28 PM · Hy!

I've listened to Shaham play a combination of Sarasate, Franz Waxman and Jeno Hubay.By the way I have no idea who the last one is - hope any of you can help me with that.Have fun! :)

February 6, 2004 at 08:15 PM · Are you talking about the Barcham-Stevens? If so, the only recording I know of is the one the three of us made of that piece in concert (on the "Three Violinists in Concert" CD). If you're interested, it's available on Amazon, and I think violinist.com has a link to the CD on its CD reviews area.

February 27, 2004 at 06:40 PM · Where can I get the sheet music for the Waxman?

February 27, 2004 at 11:41 PM · I think the Franz Waxman Carmen Fantasy is out of print.

February 28, 2004 at 01:42 AM · E-mail me.

February 28, 2004 at 03:20 AM · I wonder if they have the Waxman at the library here. I sure hope they do cuz i'd go crazy!!! I've never played either of the Carmen fantasies, I did lots of other stuff by sarasate though,Waxman should be interesting.
