I started violin as a 4th grader in a public school program and quickly fell in love with it. I had violin lessons up through high school and then tried to take advantage of the "free lessons" in college, but found I couldn't handle being divided between music and biology. Much older now, I find it nice to have both, and a few more things, all tossed in. Getting a better violin and bow made a huge difference in my progress as an adult. My husband plays violin and viola, older daughter plays cello, younger daughter plays violin, and 3 of us play piano. We've got a lot of other things going on, though, and still have little time to play quartets.
