Ryan Thomson

I'm a self taught violinist. I received the Northeast Regional Award trophy at the National Fiddle Contest on stage along with Mark O'Connor who won the Northwest Regional Award. Then I learned to read violin music. After graduate school I joined a full time Nashville country band as a country fiddler. I learned how to play square dance fiddle, contra dance, celtic, rock, and swing. After forming my own cajun and zydeco band a disability to my shoulder forced me to relearn to play the violin left handed. I now make my living playing violin left handed. I'm on the faculty of Phillips Exeter Academy as a string teacher. I get paid to fiddle in several bands but play classical chamber music several times weekly purely as a serious hobby. I publish numerous books, recordings, and videos on music through Captain Fiddle Publications.
