Richard Brooks has been an active musician in the Connecticut-New York area for over 30 years. He works as a violinist in both classical and jazz genres, as a teacher, and as a conductor. He has recorded 2 CD's of his original pop/jazz and was a featured artist at the 1989 New Haven Jazz Festival. Brooks has conducted for school festivals in Connecticut and in Westchester and Putnam counties in New York. He held conducting positions for community and youth orchestras in Danbury, Cheshire and Norwalk Connecticut. He stresses a foundation of classical technique in his teaching, but encourages branching out to jazz, rock, or fiddling once a level of competence has been achieved.
Richard Brooks performs concerts and club dates featuring his original music and a few standards. He performs in duo, trio, quartet or quintet ensembles. He is currently performing with the Brooks-Hartline-Fried Trio, a group that includes violin, guitar and doublebass. They perform standards, jazz arrangements of pop classics like The Beatles, and originals.
He is curently teaching privately primarily through Westchester Home Music and Continuo Music At Home.
