After studying with Herman Krebbers and Igor Ozim, the Dutch violinist Karel Boeschoten has performed in many leading orchestras, including the Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest Amsterdam and the Camerata Bern. In 2004 he was guest- concertmaster of the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala di Milano. As a soloist he performed among others at Carnegie Hall and the Berliner Philharmonie. With chamber music partners such as Vladimir Mendelssohn and Thomas Demenga he cultivates a tradition of spontaneous music making. He has traveled as a member of the improvising European Chaos String Quintet and as teacher of improvisation techniques. Active as a composer, Boeschoten has written several works for solo violin. His violin concerto received recognition in the Netherlands as did his “Suite Extravaganza” for solo violin and string orchestra in Switzerland. Boeschoten interpreted works written for him like the violin concerto by the Romanian composer Dan Dediu. He is familiar with numerous musical styles and has toured extensively as musical partner of a flamenco dancer and has performed at the Lucerne Festival and the Montreux Jazz Festival. As a leader of the ensemble “Kalandos,” he plays Hungarian and Romanian folk music. He has been invited at many Festivals around the world. Boeschoten is currently Artistic Director of the Rüttihubeliade Festival in Switzerland.
