A native of Newport Beach, California, James Wieners received his Bachelor of Music degree from Biola University’s Conservatory of Music, studying under Samuel Formicola of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, and a Master’s degree in Performance from the Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, completing studies with Mark Lakirovich.
He has supplemented formal studies with workshops and festivals at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and the Oberlin College Conservatory in Ohio.
An active performer and teacher, both as a violinist and violist, he has participated in performances, coachings and masterclasses with members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, New York Philharmonic and Boston Symphony; the Beaux Arts Trio; the Juilliard, Turtle Island and Escher String Quartets; and faculty of the Juilliard School, Cleveland Institute of Music, Oberlin College Conservatory, Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory. As a freelance player, he is involved in chamber and orchestral music, and can be found performing and recording with ensembles in both classical and non-classical genres.
