Georgia Hornbacker

I am Associate Professor of Violin at Millikin University in Decatur, IL. I also have a private studio in Sherman. I am Associate Concertmaster of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestras. I am Concertmaster of the Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra. I have Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in violin performance from Indiana University, Bloomington where I studied violin with Tadeusz Wronski and Franco Gulli and chamber music with David Dawson. In 2001 I was named Studio Teacher of the Year by Illinois ASTA. My former student Clayton Penrose-Whimore recently won the Junior Division of the Sphinx Competition in Ann Arbor, MI. While he was still studying with me in 2006, he was the fifth place Laureate and youngest finalist in the history of the Sphinx at age 12.

I am a member of the board of Illinois ASTA, a reviewer for "American String Teacher", and a certified ASTACAP examiner. I wrote three chapter for "Teaching Music through Performance in Orchestra" and was a contributing author to "The String Teachers Cookbook: Creative Recipes for a Successful Program. I will be presenting a session on shifting titled "Ready, Aim...Darn!" at the 2010 ASTA convention in Santa Clara, CA
