I have been teaching for 20 years, and performing for 12. I am experienced teaching violin and fiddle styles to children and adults. I emphasize proper techniques to improve COMFORT while playing, musicality and dexterity. I specialize in teaching improvisation to classical players, as well as classical violin, jazz, celtic, bluegrass, old time, gypsy, and the art of rhythm violin. I have been playing since the age of 3, and performing as a classical violinist and violist since the age of 7, and as a jazz, bluegrass, and celtic fiddler since the age of 19. I consider myself an especially accomplished improviser, but I also enjoy performing classical chamber music and solo violin works. I am a composer and perform my compositions as well. I tour internationally with my band Taarka, and perform regularly with Juno award winning banjo player Jayme Stone, award winning bluegrass band the RailSplitters, and many others. I was a teacher of eastern european violin at the Mark O'Connor Strings Conference in San Diego in the summer of 2006 and have presented private clinics all over the country as well as workshops at music schools from Bend, OR to Berklee in Boston.
