Madeline G

I'm a seventeen-year-old violinist from the Philadelphia area. I started playing the violin at age 5. I currently study with Hirono Oka, a member of the Philadelphia Orchestra. I have been concertmaster of the Philadelphia Sinfonia Youth Orchestra and the Philadelphia Sinfonia Chamber Orchestra for the past four years. In summer 2007, I toured the Czech Republic and Poland with the Philadelphia Sinfonia playing concerts in Prague, Teplice, and Krakow, and I will participate in Sinfonia's tour of Argentina in summer 2009. I was named an Outstanding Soloist in the 2008 Mark of Excellence "National Orchestra Honors Competition." I am the violinist in the Gray Charitable Trust Piano Trio, an Advanced Study Ensemble coached by Diane Monroe, at Settlement Music School. Chamber music camps and festivals I have attended include the Bowdoin International Music Festival, the Kimmel Center Chamber Music Camp, the Music in the Mountains Chamber Music Camp, Point CounterPoint Chamber Music Camp, and the Strings International Music Festival. I have played in various chamber music groups and orchestras at Temple University’s Center for Gifted Musicians and Settlement’s Mary Louise Curtis Settlement branch. I have soloed with the Olney Symphony, the Philadelphia Sinfonia Chamber Orchestra, and will solo with the Ambler Symphony as a winner of its Menges Scholarship Competition. I also play with the Orchestra Society of Philadelphia. I hope to major in violin performance at a music school. :D
