Tom Gossard

I'm a Los Angeles native, began my violin studies here in the mid-1950s, played in orchestras to numerous to mention, and string quartets, trios, etc., amateur and professional, taught violin ten years in the San Francisco Bay Area, and decided to retire from playing my instrument in 1997, for personal and health reasons. My highest musicianly aspiration was to be a conductor, possibly of a community or small civic orchestra, and student ensembles. I abandoned that ambition after graduating from the San Francisco Conservatory in Instrumental Conducting, again for personal reasons. That decision is the closest to one I regret in my professional career - I would have made a good conductor and my heart was definitely in it to the max (still is).
