I'm an internationally known music educator, writer, career coach, and arts consultant. I'm also the author of the celebrated book The Musician's Way (Oxford, 2009; 17th printing, 2021) and publisher of the website MusiciansWay.com. Check out my articles about practice, performance, career-building, collaboration, and more at The Musician's Way Blog.

I also publish a free, info-packed newsletter and network on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

From 2012-2016, I was Founder and Director of the Music Entrepreneurship and Career Center at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. Previously, from 1992-2012, I was a member of the artist-faculty at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Before then, I taught at UT-San Antonio, Michigan State University, and Lansing Community College. I put down the violin years ago to focus on my guitar playing, but I hold a passion for all things strings.

Today, I work as a consultant and also present workshops for musicians and teachers throughout the US as well as overseas and coach performers in ways to boost their musicianship and careers, prepare for auditions, overcome performance anxiety, and attain professional success.
