My name is Bob Reese and as of 2008, I have been playing the violin for about 20 years. I also play piano and guitar as well. My violin is a Strad copy and was made in 1987 by a good friend of mine named John Shingledecker who lived near Indiana, Pennsylvania. John sadly passed away a few years ago, but a part of him will always live on in my performance through my violin. My favorite violinsts would include but are not limited to, Itzhak Perlman, Jascha Heifitz, Hilary Hahn, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, Anna Sophie Mutter, and most recently Caeli Smith. My favorite classical composer is Mozart. In regards to playing violin, I love many different types of music, especially that which has an ethnic flavor to it., i.e. Jewish, Irish, Italian, . . .
I began to study music when I was very young, beginning with the piano. Then, when I was somewhat older, I had an experience that changed my life in terms of my musical interests. I had been attending a Mass in a Cathedral near my home, and a violinist was playing a piece there. And the sound of the violin just beautifully penetrated the core of my being. Probably only those who play or really love the violin will understand what I am talking about. Anyway. I so loved the instrument, that I decided to study and play the violin myself. Now, some 20 years later, that love for the instrument is burning as strong as ever.
