I began my musical studies with my mother at the age of two on piano and began violin at eight. My primary violin teachers were Collette Wichert, Mellasenah Edwards and Jody Gatwood. I graduated from The Catholic University of America, earning both my Bachelor of Music in violin and Master of Music in violin in 2005 and 2007, where I studied violin with Jody Gatwood . My pedagogy studies include completion of Suzuki teacher training in violin books 1-8 with Nancy Jackson, Ronda Cole, and Ed Kreitman, and I currently teach both the Suzuki method and traditional violin lessons in my private studio using a variety of method, scale, and etude books. Furthering my education is very important to me so I continue to complete postgraduate studies in education, special education, child and adult psychology, elementary music pedagogy, Finale 2012, violin pedagogy, and World Music Drumming at various universities and online. I have 36 post Masters credits, my Advanced Professional Certificate in K-12 Music from the Maryland State Department of Education, as well as a secondary certification in K-12 Special Education. I have taught students with a variety of disabilities, ranging from Down Syndrome, severe developmental delays, general learning disabilities, Autism, and ADHD. Adult students are also welcome in my studio and I love teaching them!
Many of my summers have been spent participating in numerous musical institutions including the National Orchestral Institute at University of Maryland, the prestigious Meadowmount School of Music, the Aria International Music Academy, the Amalfi Coast Festival, the International Workshops for Strings in Graz, Austria, and the American Suzuki Institute in Wisconsin. At these institutes I discovered my passion for chamber music and have studied with Robert Newkirk and the late Marilyn Neeley. It was at Meadowmount where my interest in teaching began, and I consider myself a 'grand-student' of Ivan Galamian.
Currently I teach strings for Anne Arundel County Public Schools, maintain a private violin and viola studio in Catonsville, MD, freelance at weddings, musicals, church services and other events, sub with the York Symphony Orchestra in Pennsylvania, and am on the faculty of the Baltimore String Orchestra Camp at Garrison Forest School, where I once was a camper myself.
I am a proud police wife and live with my two daughters and two dogs in Catonsville
