Summer solstice one day – heat wave the next! It was 94 in the shade of my back porch yesterday. Too hot to do much outside, even though we’re experiencing surprisingly low humidity for June in the south. I rode my bike about 8 miles this morning and that was nearly too much for me. Lots of water and a cool fan finally made my wobbly legs feel better when I returned.

There have been so many great practice hints, strategies and ideas on this site recently. I have created a practice book with many of your ideas. If I don’t copy something I’m interested in when I read it, it’s hard to go back and find it later. Thanks everyone for writing your blogs.

My husband played the baritone in his high school band. I have been trying to encourage him to go at it again to no avail. So, I took him to the final concert of the International Euphonium Institute held at Emory University for his Father’s Day gift from me. It was amazing. Over 45 euphonium players – high school to adult- played an awesome concert. Evidently the best of the best in the euphonium world were featured throughout the week long camp and at evening performances around Atlanta. The soloists for the Gala Concert were David Childs, Brian Bowman and Adam Frey, the founder of the IEI. My husband described David Childs as the rock star of euphonium players – 20 something, from the UK, and quite a performer. I gave him a 10 on the hot euphonium dude scale.
