Old guy survives spring recital!

Well I lived through my first recital. I had taken this seriously and had practiced until I had my solo piece down well, (Braham’s Waltz). There were about a dozen Suzuki kids there with their parents, and it was as you had described, they were excited that this old man, (in their eyes), was playing in the recital with them! I was given great encouragement from the parents as well.

I messed up slightly towards the middle of the piece, nerves were causing a little bow bounce, and lost my place in my head a little, but according to my wife, not really noticeable to the audience. Then, I played chorus with another adult and my teacher, and that went perfect. We really had fun playing, and my wife whispered that I “made it through”.

My teacher is excited that everything went well with her preparations, and that my learning curve is starting to accelerate. If I hadn’t put myself out there to pursue this instrument, I would not be experiencing the excitement and joy that I have now.

Everyone on this board has helped me either directly or indirectly one way or another.

My spring recital.

I know it's been awhile since I told you about the Spring recital that my teacher requested I attend. It is day after tomorrow, and yes I am nervous, but excited at the same time. I know that having these performances help me grow. I still laugh at myself a little, as I will be the oldest, but I'm having fun. Just to refresh, I'm 46 years old, grey goatee, 6'5" and it's my first suzuki recital. I am sure that I'll stick out like Godzilla in Tokyo, but I'm going for it.

This I hadn't counted on though, my wife is coming, her mother arrived this morning from out of town to attend and a business associate of mine are going to be there. I am sure this is to torture me to within an inch of my life, but they are welcome to attend.

I think you'd be happy with my progress, and I'll let you know how it goes when all the dust settles.

Thanks for everyones encouragement and all the advice this board freely gives. I have increased my prune intake because of this place, thanks Buri.

P.s. playing trio with one other adult and my teacher of "chorus" I have lead. My solo with piano is "Brahams Waltz"
