It seems like this is the time of year when a lot of people get "down in the dumps." I am one of the participants in lowered self-esteem. Over the summer, everyone gets back from camps and things and has a little down time. During that down time, you sit on your accomplishments from the previous year and realize how far you have come. You practice and think, "Who now can even come close to this violinist?" Being away from peers, you forget that they advance too. Being away from teachers erases the fact that you too make mistakes and have problems that need fixing. You head into the season not practicing as much as you should have and realize that you are not as good as you have made your image for most of the summer. Your first hit is hard, then you rebuild slowly, but surely. I am recouping and am trying to scrape together minutes to make time for practice, but that is increasingly difficult. However, my true violinistic soul will emerge again soon!

I was recently introduced to the 3rd movement (Moderato - Allegretto) of the Goldmark concerto for violin and orchestra. Oh, how I yearn to play that piece now! I am actually listening to it right now. Since I first heard it, I've listened to twice before I go to bed every night. If only I wasn't working on anything and I had 6 hours to practice everyday...I would learn it and their would be no stopping me!
