Midori in Vermont

July 18, 2007 12:21

Last night, I actually got out! My husband and I went to hear Midori play at a lovely venue nearby. It's a very small hall, just perfect for the sonatas she played with pianist Charles Abramovic.

No time to post a thorough review; however, I will say that both of them were amazing. I of course paid much greater attention to Midori, but the two of them obviously enjoyed playing together and had a nice conversation for us.

Her tone is amazing; I love her violin. She had such a wonderful, rich, full sound on the lower strings, and none of the piercing highs that many concert violins have on the E string. Her pianissimo -- now that is something that I dream of achieving.

She and I are the same age, but she is so far beyond me that it makes me feel like quite an underachiever!
