Invitation to play with the Harvard Musical Association reading orchestra, Beacon Hill, Boston.

Allow me to call the attention of the Violinist.com community to the Harvard Musical Association Reading Orchestra in Boston. All string players who reside or travel to Boston are most welcome to come to our readings of the orchestral literature. The Harvard Musical Association, America's oldest musical association (founded in 1837 in rebellion against Harvard University's long tradition of "music being acceptable as long as it was seen but not heard"), is located in a lovely townhouse on Beacon Hill. Here is a draft of our Spring, 2010 schedule:

Here arethe dates of our upcoming 2010 sessions and advance information aboutconductors, soloists and concertos. We will continue to send out more complete program notices in the daysbefore each meeting, as usual. Pleasefeel free to distribute this announcement to people you think might beinterested in playing with us. In particular, we are currentlyrather short in the string sections, and would be happy to have you bring alongnew string players and introduce them to the HMA Orchestra. We would also like to recruit bassoon, horn and percussionplayers; other interested wind and brass players should be encouraged tocontact us by email for inclusion on a reserve list. The doors are openat 6:30 p.m., but by virtue of security, we lock them again at 7:30; if youarrive late, you will have to ring the bell for someone to come down and letyou in. Should being late beunavoidable, it is a matter of courtesy both to the music and to other playersto wait until the movement underway has ended before trying to take a seat. Youmay call the Association (617 523 2897) after 2 pm on Friday for an update onany changes in the evening's event, which is particularly encouraged ifinclement weather threatens.
