June 12, 2023 at 09:53 AM · Re ~ Anne Sophie Mutter with Herbert von Karajan 60th Birthday Recordings!! {#1}

Knowing Anne-Sophie Mutter since our being introduced to each other in London's Royal Festival Hall, eons ago, and by Sir Georg Solti, following a Dress Rehearsal of ASM w/Solti in Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, neither of us at that time, spoke the native born language of the other with Maestro Solti, in-between us acting as our p.t. translator and enjoying seeing his Two 'Girls' attempting to communicate & needing a Conductor, aka, Translator!!! Although I am older than ASM, we got on well, yet a few decades passed until our meeting in January of 2020, here in Chicago, for her 250th All Beethoven Piano & Violin Sonatas Recital Birthday Celebration at Orchestra Hall, and little knowing the arrangement to continue our Violin Talk would change from 'Anytime' to unknown just days prior to the Announcement of a Global Pandemic from unknown to most Dr,'s, of Coronavirus & most not truly understanding nor imagining what The World would shortly begin enduring and horrid suffering through, I left thinking of travel to London in the Summer of '20 ...

Our Violin Chat backstage with a fine violin colleague, F-tina, {full name with held for privacy}. trying to give an impression knowing my own concert playing, kept trying to over hear all being said, yet we were visited by my longtime wondrous 'Cellist, and 'First Pick' of Eugene Ormandy at her tender 15 yrs to become the youngest Cellist in his Philadelphia Orchestra, visiting her close friend, ASM Pianist, Lambert Orkis, & a very welcoming gentleman, kind and a bit curious about how long Barbara Haffner and I had known each other!! It's rather intriguing on reflection that neither Anne-Sophie Mutter nor myself mentioned Karajan by name or another also famed Conductor yet whom we both knew and mentored each of us! In our Violin Chat, due to my colleague, F-tina, ASM noted my studying with Nathan Milstein, and asked with great curiosity 'How Milstein managed to play so magnificently and at such an advanced age for any Violinist!?' I was about to mention a 'secret' when we were again interrupted by Lambert Orkis & Violoncellist, Barbara Haffner, coming over to join us! We agreed to meet together in London, and seeing ASM was very fatigued, offered an RX for her to go back to her Hotel and Rest the next day which she confirmed was a 'Rest Day', Thank Heaven's!

Prior to saying Good Bye's we had a Nice Hug and I realized I was still holding a Macy's Happy Pink Bag w/some fabled Marshall Field Chocolates which featured a lovely Peppermint flavour inside and which I gave to her for 'sustenance' {Ha Ha!!} for a next day & we waved saying, "Anytime yet best in London & Soon!" Of course, this was when Anne-Sophie mentioned to a guest asking for her autograph & age ~ "I'm 56!" and finished her signature on the CSO Chamber Music Beethoven 250th Birthday Celebration Program of

3 Piano/Violin Beethoven Sonatas which were exquisite in Anne-Sophie Mutter's hands and in her musical conception of messages in all Three very well known LvB Score's & I found myself thinking 'NM never did that but how marvellous an idea here ...' with other not thought of prior profound ideas in famed Kreutzer Piano/Violin Sonata No. 9 ... One could go on for a long time, but this is really a Look Back to Yesteryear, and w/greatly looked forward to hearing's of a younger Anne-Sophie Mutter with her obviously cherished & revered Conductor Musician Mentor - Idol, Herbert von Karajan!

A Word: I was very impressed when we spoke of Nathan Milstein, followed by her excitement in wishing to know of some Milstein Secrets, that in speaking a bit, both of us agreed never to divulge personal confidence's shared with either of us by Icon Mentor's in any Book or Publication to continue being a fidel Friend of both our Above 'Guru's' and both being so globally famed while having had immense genuine musical respect for each other!! This was, for me, revelatory to witness w/ASM's sense of Awe about Mr. Milstein, whom she obviously had heard much about from none other than the Great Herbert von Karajan when very young and starting out under the guidance of 'Conductor for Life' of The Berliner Philharmonker, Maestro Karajan! I often heard from both NM & his wife, Mrs. Nathan Milstein, about Karajan's insistence to invite NM to come to Berlin to play either the Beethoven or Brahms Violin Concerti, on a frequent basis!!! This loving Tribute to Anne-Sophie Mutter for her Sixtieth Birthday, is a welcome Tribute via the Deutsche Grammophon Set of Recordings to both Mentor, Herbert von Karajan, and his young 'genius', Anne-Sophie Mutter, so globally revered by her musician colleagues and avid admiring concert audiences ~

Wishing Anne-Sophie Mutter a Marvellous Sixtieth, with decades more playing on her magical Strad's & making marveled in depth profound sense of Violin Concerti, Beethoven; Brahms, Bruch #1; Tchaikovsky & others to be first heard with HvK, may all violinists around the Globe celebrate the 29th of June, 2023 Birthday of Anne-Sophie Mutter, a 'Star' Performer, who has truly earned her way to the proverbial 'Top' and remains simple, humble & Kind!

~ Happy Birthday, Anne-Sophie M, from Chicago 'Frango Peppermints!'! ~
