Max Bruch & Florence Price Violin Concertos
Randall Goosby, violin
Philadelphia Orchestra, Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducting

Building on his debut album Roots (2021), which celebrated Black classical composers, violinist Randall Goosby's new album showcases composer Florence Price's nearly-forgotten Violin Concertos, Nos. 1 and 2, as well as Max Bruch's ever popular Concerto No. 1. "I fell in love with Bruch Concerto No. 1 when I was a kid, and it’s one of those pieces that just doesn’t get old," Goosby said. "It was only a little more than a decade ago that Florence Price’s Violin Concertos were discovered in what used to be her summer home. Since the discovery, Florence Price’s unique musical language and style has enjoyed widespread recognition and appreciation, thanks in large part to Philadelphia’s incredible recordings of her orchestral works." From the album: Goosby also recorded an arrangement of Price's "Adoration."

The Living American
Timothy Schwarz, violin

Violinist Timothy Schwarz champions American composers with his latest recording, which features works by Steven Sametz, Jennifer Higdon, Jessie Montgomery, Joseph Goodrich, Avner Dorman, Reena Esmail, and Denis DeBlasio. "I have always been fascinated by American music," Schwarz said. "With such a diverse country, what are the musical characteristics that make a piece sound ‘American’? The answer, of course, is as complex and multi-faceted as defining what it means to be American." BELOW: Timothy Schwarz plays by "Lacrimosa" by Joseph Goodrich, with pianist Charles Abramovic.

Lines from Poetry
Davis Brooks, violin and viola

Violinist/violist Davis Brooks has recorded a compilation of works by composers with whom he had developed musical relationships in past years, either through performances or earlier recordings of other works. The album includes three premieres: Richard Einhorn’s "Imagined Natures" for solo violin, Balee Pongklad’s "Siamese Abroad" for solo viola, and Filipe Leitão’s "String Samba for three violins and viola." In addition, Ronald Caltabiano’s magnificent ten movement piece, "Lines from Poetry," for solo violin and Frank Felice’s "Two by Four" for three violins and viola, complete the album. Brooks records all parts of the two multi-voice works. The album is Brooks’s fifth solo recording of new violin works. BELOW: Lines from Poetry: II. Allegro flessibile.

As from ~ Elisabeth Matesky, Veteran Violinist, Carrier of the Heifetz-Milstein Legacy of Violin Playing & Mentoring

Thus far it is still a bit premature to assess the playing of Randall Goosby, by listening to only a lovely & prayerful Movement from a Florence Price Violin Composition which fades into oblivion, & not meant to be in any way disrespectful yet from an Int'l Violin Soloist Veteran, wishing for much more 'Violinism' of said to be very fine Violinist, Randall Goosby, recording w/the Philadelphia Orchestra, aka, Ormandy's Philadelphia with gloried history of this renowned American Orchestra, and to be sure, Leopold Stokowski's Musical

'sanctuary' Orchestra as evidenced by his historic recordings with The Philadelphia in the 20th Century, w/Must Add, 'I knew Stokie,'

due our meeting in NYC to arrange recording together in London at Decca in a favored VC, & a Grand Eugene Ormandy meeting in Chicago, w/ the Maestro taunting me to play the entire Brahms Violin Concerto right there & then following Aram Khachaturian's Violin Concerto which Ormandy hadn't Brahms time to listen yet spoke of our collaboration in the Brahms shortly thereafter! Btw, known of Conductor on the recording, Yannick Nezet-Sequin, has much to look to re his Internationally Gloried Age of 20th C. Music Predecessors!!

One is most familiar with the requirements of international touring and that of Violin Soloist and in the tradition of one's fabled Iconic Violin Mentor's, & one hopes Violinist.com will feature Mr. Goosby in better known Violin Concerti to truly hear his multiplied range's of violinistic technique and musical style mirroring the major much beloved Violin Concerti ~ If one had a choice, I would select the Sibelius; Brahms and Shostakovich #1 in a minor, Op. 99, w/Two samplings of Unaccompanied Bach Violin S/P ... The Groupings would give a panoramic view of a young Violinist at this specific point in time with a windowed view of his future prospects to soon behold!!

Thanking Violinist.com for focusing the spotlight on the young US Violinist, Randall Goosby, who is already creating 'Waves' & good one's in the Music World, perhaps many of us will have the looked forward to opportunity to hear young Randall Goosby in traditional Groupings of Violin Concerti in the near future, I remain with good wishes ~
