Performed at two separate concerts during the pandemic, here are two different versions of the "Four Seasons." First is Vivaldi's The Four Seasons featuring concertmaster Nikki Chooi. Conductor JoAnn Falletta said this concert felt like "more than music; it became a kind of reassurance, of connection, of continuum. In Nikki's transcendent playing, we all found solace and hope, and wanted to document this performance as a very special moment in our season." Later in the season, the BPO and violinist Tessa Lark performed and recorded "The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires," Astor Piazzolla's version of the seasons, revealed through the essence of the tango, which Falletta calls "a sad song disguised as a dance." Joseph Boulogne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, was a brilliant swordsman, athlete, violin virtuoso, and gifted composer. He was also an early and important exponent of the "symphonie concertante" – a genre that draws on both the symphony and concerto traditions by adding a second solo violin or viola. Éric Tanguy Violin Concerto No. 2
Júlia Pusker, violin
Jyväskylä Sinfonia, Ville Matvejeff conducting

Éric Tanguy’s Violin Concerto No. 2, revised in 2003, is built on a very classical form, set in three movements that alternate fast–slow–fast and including a big cadenza. The concerto is performed by Júlia Pusker, prize-winner from the 2019 Queen Elizabeth violin competition in Brussels.
