More chances for older and riper violinists. Some violinists thought they had their last chance in 2009, but perhaps now they get a new chance to compete:
Violin 2012 - rules (75 years Queen Elisabeth Competition)
In 2012, our 17th competition dedicated to violinists will bring some novelties :
The participant’s age limit is raised to 30 years (they must be born after 15 January 1982).
The candidates will have to propose two different recitals for the semi-final, of which the jury will choose one to be performed.
More information is available in the rules of this competition.
The semi-finalists will be accompanied by the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, under the baton of Michael Hofstetter.
Once more we welcome the National Orchestra of Belgium and Gilbert Varga for the final at the Centre for Fine Arts.
The 2012 Violin Competition will mark the 75th anniversary of the Queen Elisabeth Competition, established in 1937 under the name of the renowned Belgian violinist Eugène Ysaÿe.

Most competitions violinists have to play Bach Partita's and Paganini Caprices in 1th round, 2th Mozart violin concerto + Beethoven sonata. Final is free choice, so Tsjai, Beethoven, Brahms, 3th Saint-Saens, 1th Bruch, etc.
The Dutch National violin competition has a original programm. For the finla the candidates could choose between 5th Vieuxtemps or 8th Spohr, but the 4 finalists choose all 5th Vieuxtemps. Here the remaider of the programm: http://www.oskarback.nl/volgend-concours.html
