Hannover violincompetition 27sept-9 october

September 28, 2009 at 4:44 PM

Yesterday The Hannover violin competition has began. On septembre 26 12.00 they choose in which order the 29 candidates would start (35 were permitted, but 6 withdrew) after a preselection.

They began the next day at 16.30 so I went to Hannover to see the 6 candidates (and because someone from the Netherlands was a competitor) It took 4 hours in my car to arrive in Hannover and 4 hours to ride back so I was at 2 AM in the night back home in the Netherlands. Last time, 3 years ago, there was no clear scheme when the participants play, so I arrive too late, but now I saw 6 times the rare piece of Joseph Joachim. 3 years ago there was some controversy about some big names who did not make it to the semi's.

There were some cd's and the last winner Suyoen Kim has recorded the 1th and 2th violinconcerto of Joseph Joachim for Naxos. So I bought that cd (thanks Jonathan) , because after the 2th and 3th violinconcerto of Joachim, now I also have the 1th violinconcerto of Joachim.

I also have to say that the concerthall of Brussel was a beauty (here some photo's: www.mijnalbum.nl/Album=LTPPKDW7 ) although it must soon get some paint and some repair, but the concerthall in Hannover was a ugly concrete bunker, although the sound was good, but the hall relatively small. Here some photo's also with the satue of Joachim which was on stage: www.mijnalbum.nl/Album=3XTWYCRW

When I drove home I heard on the German radio the music of a chambermusic competition FOR ALL AGES. Mehanem Plessler was in the jury. I would like to hear a violincompetition with no age limitations.

Here you can see and hear the life stream (I am now listening to Bach while typing this)

Thanks for posting the information.  The level of competition is very high.  Some of the participants I have watched before in concert: Yura Lee and Yevgeny Kutik at NEC, and Jing Wang at Rice.
