Knussen violinconcerto by Frederieke Saeijs

August 15, 2009 at 10:12 AM

Yesterday I heard the modern violinconcerto (2002) of Oliver Knussen (born 1952) played by the Dutch violinist and Long-Thibaut competition winner Frederieke Saeijs. You have to like modern music, but I think nevertheless it is an interesting piece with 3 movements, which follows immediately after each other. Between 2th and 3th movement (2th video) I missed 3 seconds:

She is an amazing violinist and an equally kind person. I spent a few hours talking with her just a few weeks ago while she visited Parry Sound. She was here for 5 concerts and I was mesmerized by her mastery,

Actually I had the good fortune to transport her back and forth to the airport. The conversations were a fantastic learning experience for me.

I'll never forget her Gluck melodie and Bach Chaconne
