Hi. It has been forever since I have blogged. I'm trying to figure out this message editor. I selected a java program to use but for now I'm just writing in Word and then pasting. On the screen in v.com there is just a tiny window and if I type something it is just a blank cursor that moves across the screen. Am I missing something obvious??? -JenniferJennifer, if you write something in Word and then copy and paste it in the box, it won't work. Nothing you write will show up on your blog. One thing you can do is write directly in the little box shown for that purpose. Personally, I like to think and write outside the box. I may spend several days or several sessions writing and editing my blog. Also, the box isn't large enough for you to see the entirety of what you've written all at once. I write my blogs in an HTML editor, click on "source" above the little box, and then copy and paste it in there. Even this only works for simple coding. I once wrote an unordered list in perfectly good HTML code, and it came out all screwed up. If you can write in very basic HTML -- nothing fancy -- click on "source," and copy and paste your code into the little box, that should work. It works for me, but it is inconvenient.
It isn't that the box isn't large enough to see all of what I've written, it is t hat it doesn't show anything at all. the cursor moves, but there is not text? The cut and paste works for getting the words down, but like you said, not formatting ( I got that to work by using my site preferences...I don't even know what HTML code is? Oh No!!! BTW, How are you, Pauline? If there are typos, sorry...I'm typing blind. I must figure this out. There is a source bnox, which drops down a 1/2 cm. sized line. That is what I am typing in now. For my Discussion Posts, I have been doing the cut and paste from...actually I thik it is OFFICEWORKS. Well. My husband is employed in the computer field...fixes laptops and systems, so he can explain this to me if I can't work my way through it. Is there an info site on v.com on how to use this editor for newbies in the program? I went to the website tutorial, but that didn't make sense either. K. Have to get dressed and ready to go to Nashville. We shall get back in touch, no? -Jennifer
It's hard to say for sure, but this sounds like a browser problem to me. I can see what I'm typing in Safari, Firefox, and a pretty old version of IE. Could you download something newer?
My husband, who is a computer scientist, downloaded Google Chrome for fun (it's free), and violinist.com works in that too.
Glad to see you back!

Hi, Jennifer. It's good to hear from you again. I hope your pain and swelling are relieved soon. I know how much you want to keep playing your violin.
I don't have the problem you do with a moving cursor and a blank screen. For discussion posts or responses to blogs, I just type them directly into the box, and that works.
Karen had a good idea. It may be rerlated to the browser you use. I use Firefox. A lot of software has been designed to work with Microsoft IE, and it may not work with other browsers. I'd like to hear from someone who uses IE. Does the current system for posting a blog here work OK in IE? I know there are techies who are v.commies. Perhaps they can enlighten us.
