First roundCandidates:
A total of 88 candidates (45 women and 43 men), of 29 different nationalities, were admitted to the first round of this year's violin competition. As some candidates have withdrawn, there are 78 actual participants.

The jury will choose from the following works proposed by the candidate :
- the Sonata in G minor, A minor or C major for solo violin by J.S. Bach,
- the first movement of the Concerto in D minor by R. Schumann,
- three Caprices by N. Paganini.
The names of the 24 semi-finalists are announced on Saturday 5 May at the end of the evening.
