My personal frustrations as a violinist

I have been playing professionally for some 35 years now. I am not a virtuoso, just a trench fairly decent (intonation, etc.) utility violinist. In addition to my private teaching, running Cabrillo Chamber Orchestra, I play various gigs throughout the year, including recitals with my pianist. I am a life long Bach freak, always trying to improve on the Sonatas and Partitas.
My nemesis is the Presto from the 1st Sonata... Have worked on this opus a lifetime, multiple bowings, rhythms, etc.
Very slow... no matter what, I am not content with my rendering... Makes me feel like a looser... is it just me, or are serious musicians too critical of themselves for there own good? Just food for thought. Any comments are welcome.

I just looked up the word 'nemesis'... maybe my problem is seeing the Presto as 'an unbeatable foe' .. LOL

Bach tends to do this to us, also Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms… It's not just you. Being self-critical is how we get this far. On the other hand, knowing our limits is absolutely necessary. To me, I just accept the fact that these giants are so much greater than we are and will be always above and beyond us no matter what, and it’s lukcy for us because otherwise the fun would end too soon :)
