My daughters are heavily into manga and anime. So much so that they have even managed to learn some Japanese.
The other day daughter Clara comes into my room:
-Dad, have you ever heard of something called the Devil's Trill, by Talutinne?
-Yes, Tartini, what about it?
-Is it very difficult, even for professionals?
-I wouldn't know; depends on the professional, perhaps? Last time I tried I found it very difficult. How did you get interested in this piece?
-There are loads of anime movies with it, on Youtube! Could you play it?
-If you play the piano part!
and now I'm in this fix: I feel obliged to do the best I can with it. Clara does not practice the Tartini much, yet: the piano part is too tame for her taste. "It's like a church song, Dad. And besides, you cannot yet play your trills."
It's all glorious fun, of course, even if we never get around to playing the Devil's third movement.
