Honors Orchestras?

April 11, 2011 05:35

The 52nd MENC Eastern Division Conference was last weekend in Baltimore, MD.  I went to watch the All-Eastern Orchestra perform on the final day, and they were just phenomenal.  The conductor, E Daniel Long, conducted our All-State Orchestra when I was a sophomore in high school.

A few years ago, there was a popular discussion on "What is the best youth orchestra in the US?" on the boards, and I think that everyone who posted basically just advertised the local group that they happen to participate in.  In light of witnessing this group live though, I'd like to legitimately nominate the All-Eastern Orchestra as the best.  There were several representatives from Pre-Julliard!  Not only that, but the kids in this group have a tendency to end up in Ivy League Schools for college.

Did anyone here ever play in the All-Eastern orchestra?  I was just curious if anyone's ever played in these kinds of honors groups?
