Renowned violin pedagogue and performer Simon Fischer will be on the Baylor University campus for a 2 day residency on October 17 and 18. Simon Fischer is recognized as one of the pre-eminent musicians of our time, enjoying a distinguished and wide-ranging career as a performer, educator and recording artist. Simon Fischer is recognized as having a place amongst the world's elite teachers. He is currently professor at the Guildhall and Yehudi Menuhin Schools. Having studied in London with Yfrah Neaman, and in New York with Dorothy DeLay, Fischer's approach unites the best elements of the French, Russian and American violin traditions.
Fischer's published work has greatly influenced the teaching of the violin. Published by Edition Peters, his technique books Basics and Practice (translated into Korean, Italian and German), Scales and The Violin Lesson, and the DVD The Secrets of Tone Production, have become standards on many continents.
He will be presenting 2 masterclasses on October 17 in Meadows recital hall (located in the McCrary Music building) from 4-6 pm and 7:30-9:30. These Lyceum Series events, made possible by the Meadows Foundation of Dallas, are free of charge and open to the public.
