My Heart Goes Out

March 28, 2011 at 1:20 AM

For over two weeks I've thought about writing, yet I haven't.  The day my spring break vacation began was also the same day the 9.0 earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disaster hit Japan.  I had many things to enjoy and sunshine and stories to tell, but the cloud of this horrific event has placed a deep moment of silence in my heart.  There is little time at all that I haven't been thinking about what has been going on, and every time I sit down at my computer, I anxiously check the news for any new information I can find.

As I pause to compose my thoughts, I can't seem to find a suitable tone past this moment of silence; I've been reluctant to break it.  I respect Japan.  I am deeply in love with its culture and its people, ever since my third grade class gave a presentation on Japan to the school, and I got to dress in a kimono and learned to use chop sticks.  Someday, I still hope to visit there and eat a bowl of ramen on the streets of Tokyo.
