Recommended mutes?

October 6, 2021, 3:06 AM · I'm wondering, what are people's experiences and recommendations for mutes? I have two mutes for my violin, both of which I am pleased with, though one sells as a practice mute, and the other as a performance mute. I have two, likewise, for my cello, though the one sold as a practice mute, doesn't clasp the bridge at all, and is next to useless, while the performance mute does what it should do.

(For what it's worth, I've used clothes pegs on my violin's bridge as a mute, and it does work, though the tone is a trifle harsh.)
