Sometimes the most difficult technical problems have simple solutions: "Just relax," "start from the string," "let gravity do the work."

Other times, the solutions just require a lot of practice.

And in this case, the solutions are just so ridiculous, you have to see them to believe them.

Vilinlesson

Michael from Violinexcerpts.com and Matt Kiefer go through three problematic areas from the cadenza to Tchaikovsky's violin concerto, the opening of Don Juan by Richard Strauss, and E-Flat arpeggios.

Step into my orchestra audition simulator:

July 2, 2013 19:28

Hi there violinists,

If you've ever prepared for an orchestra audition, you know how valuable playing for your peers and colleagues is before the big day to help get your nerves out. This not only gets you "psyched" up to perform when you're nervous, but also helps get you used to all the audition procedures.

Auditionsimulator

Alas, sometimes we can't get our friends and colleagues together at the same time and place to hold such a "mock audition."

So, just this week while I was at a summer festival, I got some of my friends together and filmed a first-person mock audition simulation. We had a lot of fun making it and tried to make it as realistic as possible.

It really seems like an audition simulator. You can treat this video like the real thing. In the “audition” you will receive instructions from the proctor backstage and then proceed onstage. You can perform your concerto and excerpts in real time and the panel will cut you off and ask you to move through the excerpts.

So I hope you enjoy.
Be well and practice well,

-Michael O'Gieblyn
