For my Songwriting class, I wrote a short song inspired by my recent obsession with fantasy! I think it started with watching The Lord of the Rings over the Christmas break; and then recently playing through Final Fantasy IX with my friends. The FMV cutscene music in this game was all recorded by an orchestra!
Anyways, there isn't a lot I wanted to write today; I just wanted to share this song of the moon! As I've been doing a ton of recording of things recently, I recorded two fiddle parts on this one as well, which really brought back the vibes of the Renaissance Faire from when I remember hearing them in summer 2018. I had written the piece to have a fantasy jig feel, and that was very fun to play.
We'll see if I play more string parts for other genres of songs my colleagues may write going forward, and I'll potentially do a longer blog entry on my experience playing through them. For now, I just wanted to quickly share the webpage for this song from my website. Thanks for listening! See you next time.
Quick Update (3/9/21, 10:40am) - If you're looking for a fantastic new video game soundtrack, the new Switch re-release of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury recently came out, and the new music for the extra side mode is incredible! I just watched through a "long play" video of it and then listened to the score on my walk. Lots of solo violin fun, plus an epic rock orchestra + chorus + heavy death metal singing (I think is the term...?). The original 2013 game of course has a phenomenal score, too!
