In Fervor of Music

January 7, 2018, 6:48 PM · I love moments of realization, that one feels he or she is on the correct path.

My main Christmas gift was to get my bow rehaired, my violin polished, and new strings. The strings will be coming eventually, but this evening was the second time this year I was able to pull out my violin to practice. Knowing that all I had left to do today before I lay my head to the pillow was to play this miraculous object, I was excited to dive back into the pages of repertoire for these next five weeks, all wonderful music that I enjoy so much. Tonight's task was just to go through all the pieces, both to refresh, and to focus on some of the trickier passages so I would feel set for this week at least. Something about the way my violin looked and seemed to speak to me in a different way than it had done all last year just sunk in a message for me: playing the violin truly truly was one of the best things in the entire world. I know I've said this before, but that was many years ago, when I was just starting this blog; I deserve to come back to it!

As I mentioned in a previous post, I am really ready to just dive into my music and academic musical studies - studying it, rehearsing it, and practicing it, and mainly, for composing, orchestrating my Henry V tone-poem. All of this will be very enjoyable, and to think that I could have more evenings during my week practicing in my room after a long day with my pencil and paper either composing or taking notes on a chapter about Mozart, Beethoven, or Brahms... It all excites me in a whole new way, and I can't wait to see what comes out of a hopefully large fountain of inspiration.
