Websites and practice

January 31, 2006 22:25

Thanks for everyone help and comments on my website. Actually I didn't end up using any of the solutions to that strange little bug. I kept looking and asking and eventually found it - by removing the back-to-back html comments around the area the bug fixed itself. So Pauline, although my extensive use of comments does help a lot, as is so often the case, too much of a good thing can be a bad thing :>

Anyway, with that out of the way, I'm getting down to the things I'm actually good at, which is playing my violin. I had a bit of a false start last week - I picked my girl up (i'm talking about the violin, and not my girlfriend this time ;) hehe) and gave her a bit of a play, but it had a buzz. I got disheartened, and didn't pick it up for the rest of the week. Started again this week, and have booked in a time to go see my luthier, but the buzz has stopped, which makes me think it was just the strings getting used to being played again, instead of a crack in my violin. So for the past two days I've gotten through all my technical work - which makes me feel all happy and pleased and all that stuff.

I start teaching again next week. I've got two returning students, and two new ones, however I've lost one student (for the simple reason that all the phone numbers I had aren't working any more). I'm hoping that they will call soon.

I've also been asked to house-sit a friends house while he and his wife do a 3 month trip around Australia. So I'll be living on my own for three months. I'm looking forward to it, and since it'll be at the start of the uni year, i'm looking forward to getting lots of practice done uninteruppted and lots of study and all that sort of stuff (as well as feeling of independence).

Got to go, time to get on with the rest of my day.

Website redesign

January 24, 2006 05:46

Here's something I've been working on for a while. I've done a complete redesign of my website, and have just loaded it up. Ben Clapton, violinist and composer. Please take a look and let me know what you think.

Also, if there's any webdesigners out there, could you please take a look at the about page in internet explorer. There's a bug which is meaning the last word is repeated down a couple of lines. There's nothing in the code that means it would do that, and it's not doing it in firefox or netscape. It's odd, but I would like to have it not doing it any more.

Holidays Over... Kinda

January 22, 2006 06:58

Well, I'm back from my Holiday. Here's a couple of pics to tempt you all.

The view of Albany from across the harbour at the old whaling station.

The view of the amazing coastline from the Windfarm.

But as for me now, it's back to work (kinda). I start practicing again (yay!) - working up slowly, starting with slow open strings, and then moving on to scales and technical stuff (slowly but surely), and then eventually onto pieces. Once i'm up to pieces, hopefully I'll be able to get a lesson with my teacher and get fingerings and stuff for my new pieces so I can start learning them. I'm looking forward to that.

I'm also going to start studying for Music History. I pulled out last year, and decided to overload and do History 2 and 3 this year so I can finish in the same amount of time. So I'm going to work hard all through the year, and hopefully not just pass, but get an extreemly good result.

That's it for the time being. Hope everyone is well, and is salivating over the beautiful locations that I have just down the road from me (about a 4.5 hour drive, a similar distance from between Boston and Philadelphia)
