Founded in 1999 by Pinchas Zukerman, the Young Artists Programme offers 65 highly talented students from across Canada and around the globe the opportunity to take part in two levels of technical study. Exceptional string, wind and piano musicians aspiring to be tomorrow’s best classical musicians are invited to apply to this intense and fulfilling programme of study. The Young Artists Programme offers outstanding private instruction and chamber music coaching. All students will perform in public chamber music concerts and may perform in public masterclasses, as well as closed works-in-progress and recitals. The Junior Strings offers instruction in violin, viola, cello and piano for those displaying outstanding talent during teen years, minimum age 12. Exceptions may apply. This year’s faculty is headed by Pinchas Zukerman and co-Artistic Director Patinka Kopec, of the Manhattan School of Music (violin and viola); and includes among others Grigory Kalinovsky of the Manhattan School of Music (violin and viola); Hans Jorgen Jensen of Chicago’s Northwestern University (cello) Carole Sirois, NAC Orchestra, (cello) and on faculty at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal ; Tatiana Goncharova of the Manhattan School of Music (piano); Joel Quarrington, NAC Orchestra principal double bass; Steven Dann of the Glenn Gould Professional School at Toronto’s Royal Conservatory of Music, (chamber music); guest chamber coach, Michael Tree, violist of the famed Guarneri Quartet; the five Principal Winds of the NAC Orchestra, Joanna G’froerer (flute), Kimball Sykes (clarinet), Charles Hamann (oboe), Christopher Millard (bassoon) and Lawrence Vine (horn); and guest soprano, Benita Valente.
