Program:
Kinhaven is located in the beautiful mountains of Southern Vermont. It offers three sessions every year, the Senior session and the Junior session for students under 18, and the Adult Chamber Music Workshop for four days. The Senior Session is six weeks long, and has an average of 90 students ages 13 to 18. The Junior Session is two weeks long, and has an average of 70 students, ages 9 to 14. The main focus of Kinhaven is chamber music, and students are assigned to a new chamber group each week, with the opportunity to perform with their group at the end of the week. There are also a chamber and full orchestra, a chorus, and several private lessons every week. Kinhaven has a very non-competitive atmosphere and a dedicated and stable faculty, with an extremely low turnover rate. Illustrious alumni include Ignat Solzhenitsyn, conductor of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and Mischa Amory of the Bretano Quartet. The directors are Nancy and Jerry Bidlack. There are many fun recreational activities and absolutely gorgeous scenery.

I would take Eliza's comments with a grain of salt since she didn't actually attend Kinhaven. All new cabins have been built over the last couple of years, however, I think if you asked most Kinhaven alums, their positive experiences there would have more to do with the warm atmosphere of the place, the level of playing, and the special traditions--folk dancing, singing madrigals, regata, fresh baked bread & desserts, etc.

Don't be fooled by pretty scenery, this camp is a joke! If you can't handle camping in the woods, this is NOT the place for you...while they have cabins, the pictures are extremely misleading. The "cabin" was basically four walls and a roof...if you were even lucky to have four WHOLE walls!
